Artist catalogue: Cryptomnesia, 2012 client: Kristy Gorman Late 2012, I designed a small catalogue for artist and friend Kristy Gorman, for her exhibition Cryptomnesia. Made out of a single length of uncoated Mohawk card, it unfolds to reveal an essay by Janine Randerson. Printed on a lightweight grey paper it is hand-sewn with fine yellow thread into the centre. The idea was to sprinkle the works across the sheet in the manner of the exhibition on the wall. The titles to the works are laid out around the perimeter, and connect in a relational way with the work. The format is designed to be repeated for future (and past) bodies of work, and at some point stitched together, with the option to collate the essays into one section, or leave in place. When designing the object, I was surprised at how well the folded form, when stood on a surface, related so strongly to the works. 588 x 210mm; printed and folded by Johnston Press; hand-sewn by Kristy Gorman; Typeface is Verlag by Hoefler & Frere Jones related links Melanie Roger Gallery 2000s selected Athfield ArchitectsREANNZ Research & Education Advanced Network New Zealand The Oxygen Group 1990s selected/archived Creative New Zealand |
