Point of Distance
A suspended landscape of folded paper, Point of Distance would slowly change in form and height over the six months. The construction of sheets duplicate as the exhibition catalogue, presented in stacks about the space, for the audience to select, collate, fold. This interaction with Point of Distance would extend to interviews and documentary sound-bites via video projection and iPhone/iPad apps.

Point of Distance
submission: Venice Architecture Biennale 2014, New Zealand
Shortlisted for the Creative Director role to present New Zealand at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2014, our team SJ / JC / CG / — Sharon Jansen, Justine Clark and Catherine Griffiths — proposed Point of Distance, in response to the theme, Fundamentals, set by Rem Koolhaas.
“New Zealand architectural identities are forged through encounters with international modernism. Our concept for Point of Distance critically engages Koolhaas’ theme (or, provocation), changing and challenging the received history of modernism and its movement across the globe. By retracing lines of architectural exchange, we contribute to the international conversation and heighten awareness of New Zealand’s architecture and its international contributions.” —from our Expression of Interest, 2013.
A suspended landscape of folded paper, Point of Distance duplicates as the exhibition catalogue. Presented here is a selection of pages from our submission, made in 2013.
